Estimator Job Overview
Estimators play a key role in the construction process by determining the cost of a project before work begins. They review plans and specifications, calculate material and labor costs, gather pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, and prepare bids for potential projects. Estimators combine attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and construction knowledge to help ensure projects are completed within budget.
- Review construction drawings and specifications

- Work closely with project managers and contractors
Primarily office-based, with occasional visits to jobsites to better understand project requirements.

Entry-level estimators typically earn around $60,000–$80,000 per year, while experienced estimators and estimating managers can earn $100,000 or more depending on experience, company size, and project complexity.

Information to Bring
- Completed applications include the JATC application, a copy of a photo ID, a copy of a birth certificate and application fee. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. All apprenticeships are based on contractor need.
